Import Client List Page

Use the Import Clients List page to import clients from a CSV file.

Importing Clients

To import clients from a CSV file:

  1. From the Clients page, click Import Client List.
  2. On the Import Clients page, click Sample Client Import.csv. The sample CSV file opens (in Read-Only mode) in Excel.
  3. Save the file in a convenient location on your local drive.
  4. Replace the sample data in the saved file with your actual clients’ data. The First name and Last name fields are required. The City, State, Zip, and Client ID fields are optional. Tip: To help reduce the risk of losing your data, save the file periodically as you add data to it. When you are done adding client data to the CSV file, save the file.
  5. On the Import Clients page, use the Browse button to locate and select the saved CSV file.
  6. By default, since you are the user adding the clients, you will be granted Owner permission to the clients. If you want other users in your firm to be granted permission to the clients you are adding from the CSV file, then:
    1. In the Add Permission for User or Team field, begin typing the name of a user or team.
    2. Select the name of the user or team from the auto-complete list. If the user or team you want to add does not appear in the list, then the user or team has not been added to the system or the user is a Subscription Administrator, who by role definition have full access to all clients anyway.
    3. In the permission field, click the drop-down arrow and specify the permission to be granted to the selected user or team.
    4. Click Add.
    5. Repeat steps a–d as necessary.
  7. You can remove a user or team’s permission from the clients to be imported by clicking the trash can icon in the Grantee column.
  8. You can also change the permission for a user or team by clicking the drop-down arrow in the Permission column.
  9. When are satisfied with the permission settings, click Import.
  10. If no errors resulted, the Clients page opens. Otherwise, errors are reported on the Import Clients page for your reference.

Any firm-wide permissions specified by your Subscription Administrator will be listed at the bottom of the Import Clients page. You have complete freedom to change any of the permissions before clicking Import. (See steps 7-9, above.) For more information on permissions, see Permissions. You can always make changes to your client’s permissions on the Edit Client Page > Permissions Tab or by running the Permissions Wizard.
