Resolving Printing Error with Windows 7 64-bit
When I try to print from the program, I get an error “Print driver host for 32-bit applications has stopped working”. What should I do?
Answer: This problem can occur if you are using a 32-bit printer diver in a Windows 7 64-bit environment. To resolve the problem, follow these steps:
- Restart the print spooling service:
- Click Start.
- Right-click Computer.
- Click Manage.
- Click Services and Applications.
- Click Services.
- Scroll through listing to click Print Spooler.
- Click Restart the service.
- Uninstall a printer:
- Click Start.
- Click Devices and Printers.
- Right-click a printer icon.
- Click Remove device.
- Repeat step 2 until all printers are uninstalled before proceeding to step 3.
- Reinstall a printer:
- Local Printer
- Click Start.
- Click Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a printer.
- Click Add a local printer.
- Click Use an existing port.
- Click the local port to which the printer is attached (for example, LPT1…).
- Click Next.
- Click Windows Update.
- Scroll through listing to click appropriate printer driver.
- Network Printer:
- Click Start.
- Click Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a Local Printer.
- Click Create A New Port.
- Click Standard TCP/IP Port on the drop-down list.
- Enter IP Address.
- Click Windows Update.
- Scroll through listing to click appropriate printer driver.
- Local Printer
- Disable spooling for a printer:
- Click Start.
- Click Devices and Printers.
- Right-click printer icon.
- Click Printer Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click the radio button next to “Print Directly to Printer” if it is not selected already.
- Try to print from the program. If successful, repeat steps 3 through 5 for the next printer to be reinstalled. If unsuccessful, remove the printer or check with the printer manufacturer for an updated printer driver.
