Resolving Printing Error with Windows 7 64-bit

When I try to print from the program, I get an error “Print driver host for 32-bit applications has stopped working”. What should I do?

Answer: This problem can occur if you are using a 32-bit printer diver in a Windows 7 64-bit environment. To resolve the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Restart the print spooling service:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click Computer.
    3. Click Manage.
    4. Click Services and Applications.
    5. Click Services.
    6. Scroll through listing to click Print Spooler.
    7. Click Restart the service.
  2. Uninstall a printer:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Devices and Printers.
    3. Right-click a printer icon.
    4. Click Remove device.
    5. Repeat step 2 until all printers are uninstalled before proceeding to step 3.
  3. Reinstall a printer:
    1. Local Printer
      1. Click Start.
      2. Click Devices and Printers.
      3. Click Add a printer.
      4. Click Add a local printer.
      5. Click Use an existing port.
      6. Click the local port to which the printer is attached (for example, LPT1…).
      7. Click Next.
      8. Click Windows Update.
      9. Scroll through listing to click appropriate printer driver.
    2. Network Printer:
      1. Click Start.
      2. Click Devices and Printers.
      3. Click Add a Local Printer.
      4. Click Create A New Port.
      5. Click Standard TCP/IP Port on the drop-down list.

  4. Disable spooling for a printer:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Devices and Printers.
    3. Right-click printer icon.
    4. Click Printer Properties.
    5. Click the Advanced tab.
    6. Click the radio button next to “Print Directly to Printer” if it is not selected already.
  5. Try to print from the program. If successful, repeat steps 3 through 5 for the next printer to be reinstalled. If unsuccessful, remove the printer or check with the printer manufacturer for an updated printer driver.
